Goneril

King Lear: English short story

The king proudly walked into the main room with his royal red jacket , his golden crown and his navy blue expensive trousers. He was impressed  as he was staring at his three daughters as they were for the first time in a very long time wearing pink dresses each one different from the other. “Today we are here to see who will win the most land, the least land and the one in the middle , who loves me the most?”said the king looking at the crowd. The crowd aplaused and then he turnt back to his daughters who were waiting to start. “Who wants to start?” He asked. “Me.” Replied Goneril not looking nervous at all then the king approved and here’s what she said: I love you, you are more precious than anything to me I wouldn’t change you for anything or anyone in the world. I can’t even find the right words to explain my true dear love towards you as it’s infinite.  Not even the universe is bigger than my love towards you, my love is one million times one million times bigger than the earth. “ Thank you Goneril” The king replied then said that Regan was next ” Dad,  I love you so much that I get lost in the love towards you not even the human brain can think of something to show this as it is far too difficult for me for you or for anyone else to think of. It is a love that can’t be given to anyone else but you” She said. “ Thank you Regan ” he said, now with tears dropping from his eyes,  he turnt round and wiped them then said: Cordelia speak ” Nothing ” she said.  The crowd gasped bringing their hands to cover the mouths everyone staring up at Cordelia and the king said “How!  Cordelia! ” “You can’t make me bring my heart into my mouth for you , I don’t like to exaggerate my love towards you just like my sisters did and I love you like a daughter will love their dad for bringing them up and doing anyithing for them. ” she interrupted.  Everyone in the room had shocked faces even her sisters.  ” I understand, however you don’t love me the most so you get the least land” Everything went silent and Cordelia burst out the room crying like mad then the king said “ It is a tough decision but I have decided that the winner for the most land is Goneril! The audience started clapping and cheering as the king’s guards brought some champagne for the two daughters and the king and then the party started, all the audience got of their chairs and cleared the way for the food to come in with big cakes and even chocolate fountains along with some ice statues of the three daughters and the king. Cordelia missed a great evening party so the king took pictures and pu some cake and stuff in a bag to give to her the next day with also the small part of the land.

Shakespeare Biography

William Shakespeare was born in the Shakespeare family house in Henley Street, Stratford-Upon-Avon, England. His actual date of birth cannot be known as at this time in England birth certificates were not produced, however his birth date can be guessed due to high mortality rate of infants. It is believed that he was born on the same day that he died. Shakespeare had two daughters and one son. The daughter’s names were Judith Quiney and Susanna Hall. His sons name was Hamnet Shakespeare who unfortunately died quite early being 11. He also had two grandsons and one granddaughter. His granddaughter was named Elizabeth Barnard and his two grandsons were named Thomas Quieny and Richard Quiney.

Little is known about Shakespeare’s early life. His father was a tradesman who became an alderman and bailiff, and Shakespeare was baptized in Stratford-upon-Avon on April 26, 1564. Sometime after the birth of his own children, Shakespeare set off for London to become an actor and by 1592 was well known and was quite famous in London’s theatrical world as an actor and playwright. His earliest plays, including The Comedy of Errors and The Taming of the Shrew, were written in the early 1590s. Later in the decade, he wrote tragedies like Romeo and Juliet (1594-1595) and comedies including The Merchant of Venice (1596-1597). His greatest tragedies were written after 1600, including Hamlet (1600-01), Othello (1604-05), King Lear (1605-06), and Macbeth (1605-1606).

As William Shakespeare is regarded as one of the greatest writers in the English language it doesn’t surprise me that all the things he wrote and acted are very popular reading materials around the globe. Much of his work is used in schools as part of the curriculum as learning as there are many text books explaining his work in modern English. Also lots of his amazing work has been turned into films even children’s films such as the lion king which is based on Hamlet.
